carnet issuing crisis in UK
Due to staff shortages, the UKs only issuer of carnets, the RAC, appears to be unable to keep up with demand at the moment. I have had to leave for my holiday without my carnet and hopefully have it sent on to me later. Not ideal for a short holiday. This is despite giving the required one months notice for application and several reminders.
To avoid this grief I recommend all UK travellers to get their carnet applications in as long as possible before departure. |
We have just had an anonymous e-mail from the RAC saying that Paul Gowen is now off on sick leave indefinitely, so it looks like the situation could be getting worse rather than better in the UK. Good luck! |
Oh shit....there goes my carnet refund.

Looks like Mr Carnet could be making a return!

Definitely seems to be a big problem @ RAC re carnets. When put through to the Carnet department you just get Pauls Voicemail that says leave a message and he will get back to you. I have been trying to get Carnet forms sent out for the last 3 months, with no luck. Does anyone have suggestions?

There's a guy called Malcolm Phillips filling in for Paul I believe. It was him who sent me my application form. I'd phone the RAC travel services department and ask to be put through to him personally.

Does anyone have any official info re: carnet refunds from the RAC? i.e. are they going to get round to refunding our money?
|
My contact at the RAC for carnets was Sue Collins - very helpfull. I suggest you try contacting her.

She was very helpful indeed. But she's left...

Paul has now returned to work, I got an email from him this morning confirming paperwork was being sent.
