Carnet price is steep?
I just got the following quote for a carnet:
"The cash deposit will be 2,5* the bike value. If it is 10’000.- € worth, than it will be 25’000.- €. The price for the Carnet is 570.- €" This is quite a lot of money for just visiting Iran, no other country on the way requires a Carnet. Is there a cheaper way to get the Carnet? Thanks. |
Hi There
Google" Iran Carnet", there is a person/company based in Iran that gets Iranian Carnets and will meet you at the border to make sure it all works through for you. Quite a bit cheaper than a "normal caret" and is acceptable to the customs ect. Perhaps something like Iran Overland ? Cheers, Paulo |
Thanks for the tip. It seems like I would also need a carnet for Oman. So might have to go with the very expensive option...

The problem (worldwide) with carnets is that there is very little competition in that industry.
About a year ago, I checked the price of getting a carnet to enable me to take my Canadian motorcycle to Australia - the cost was over USD $2,000. There is only one company that I am aware of that issues carnets for Canadian vehicles. |

Since you have a cheaper option for Iran and you are ok for the rest of your trip, i would definitely ask myself why do i want so much to visit Oman. During one year, things may happen on the road, bike accident, theft. Loosing the bike and on top of that the carnet deposit is a lot of money. I know what choice I would make but I am not you.
