carnet -which countries?
 

has anybody got a list of which countries require a carnet?

Hi Merlin,

If you use the search-function on "carnet" you'll find a lot of info.

A complete list of country's is dificult since this differs almost from day to day, but a guideline:
europe: not needed
Asia: needed exept for thailand
australia: highly recomended
South america: not needed, but usefull
USA and canada: not needed (i think)
Africa: almost everywhere needed

I hope this helps a bit.

Carnet is not needed for Canada or USA. However, if the customs inspector who greets you when you arrive has any doubts about your ability or intention to export the motorcycle when you are finished your tourism, you may be asked to put up a bond.

It would be quite rare for this to happen, you would need to look pretty poor, arrive with a one way ticket only and a really beat up motorcycle. But it could happen.

If your motorcycle looks like you value it, and you look like you can afford to ship it back home, you will have no problems importing it into the USA or Canada for purposes of tourism.
