CDP required in the Stans?

Hello,

I am a guy from Spain, planning to leave beginning of May across southern Europe then to Turkey and then Ferry to Sochi in Russia. After that, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, back into Kazakhstan, and back into Russia.

Later I will go into Mongolia and back to Russia again to finally leave the country via Vladivostok - South Corea ferry and then fly my bike and me to Vancouver.

My question is:

After some research it seems that NONE of these countries I mentioned need a CDP. Is this true?

After this I will ride Nort/Central/South America and I believe I do not need a CDP there either.

The third part of my trip would be Africa where I know I will need a CDP. But this will happen in 12 months from now more or less.

The thing is that RACE (the institution issuing the CDP in Spain) offers a CDP that is valid for one year. If I obtain it now... it would be a waste of money since I would have to obtain a new one when I really need it (before entering Africa).

Any reliable info about CDP needed or not in Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and South Corea?

Thanks a lot!

Correct. Don't bother with Sochi ferry just ride up through Georgia. That's what I did. Georgia is great, no visa required for Brits, probably same for you??? Kazbegi is beautiful.

If I know what a COP was I would be able to tell you, having been to those countries last year.

We rode most of this last year and none of those countries required CDP. We didnt need it until Pakistan. check the requirements for issue, we needed to submit bike registration. also i'm pretty sure it can be renewed after 1 year.

I 2nd riding up thru Georgia into Russia. Really gorgeous mountains up the rough military highway & stunning side valleys. we got thru the border without issue other than a long wait.

Sorry Dan! CDP stands for Carnet de Passages http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnet_de_Passages If the acronym didn't remind you of it that is probably good news because you didn't need it :)

Thanks for the rest of the answers too. I was not considering Georgia because someone told me that some parts of the country are a bit dangerous. But your blog post was very helpful Stephen. I may reconsider :)

Yes, I just checked and Georgia does not require visa for Spaniards.

Cheers!

Hiya
Sorry for bad spelling on my previous post, using tiny buttons on my phone!
No, you will not need a carnet for any of those countries though you will need an International driving license for Russia I believe.
