Mr Carnet seems to be a spammer selling Hungarian carnets. Did someone try his services? I would be quite wary sending a certified check to Hungary.
|
We are currently doing your route, but the other way round.
I would be wary of this. This guy put up something about 8 months ago and I e-mailed him but did not get a satisfactory reply. We got our Carnet from the ADAC in Germany, nice and legal and will actually work if needed. Info is under the topic 'Importing LR into Egypt' or something like it on this forum. I am meeting him in 10 days time to have a look at 'the product'. I'll let you know!

I dont know why I have been described as a Spammer? I dont send unsoliceted mails? Secondly I dont live in Hungary and havent asked anyone to send me a "certified check" whatever that is? If you want a carnet, you can come and meet me in London, where you can pay me in cash when you recieve a CDP you are happy with. If you arent in london you have to trust me enough to send me a deposit and I have to trust you enough to send me the rest after you recieve it.
"Hungarian Carnet" is a general term for a forged carnet in West Africa; about 5 years ago there were loads of really bad quality carnets that had been made in Hungary getting people into trouble all over the place, particualrly Senegal. Since then the term has stuck. But the carnets I offer are the best quality I have ever seen. These CDP's are for people who are in a jam and for various reasons and cant get one through the officail channels (for instance the AA - who are very unhelpful when it comes to carnets - dont issue them to non british passport holders, nor for non UK registered cars. Or for instance if you need one in a hurry, or cant organise an indemnity. Or even that the indemnity is extrotionate because your car is brand new. There are many reasons why the officialdom prooves an insurmaountable barrier for honest people looking to organise a driving expedition. (Many people renounce the idea of driving across Africa as soon as they hear about the cost of the Carnet.) If you can get one from the ADAC that's great and good luck to you, but not everyone can (speak German, go through their paperwork, arrange a deposit or indemnity to a german bank e.t.c.) Jasper: Im sorry I didn't "satisfy" your request, but just so everybody knows Im not a high street shop - this isnt my full time job, I go on expeditions over the winter so am not around, chained to my e-mail to answer all questions. infact Hotmail closed my account because I didnt look at it for over a month in over the winter. Glad you got sorted out with ADAC. OK so maybe thats made it clearer. No need to be refering to me as a spammer as though I am some sort of seedy dishonest dodgey charachter out to rip people off. If you need some help to obtain a Carnet and are in a jam and I can help I will try to. Happy travels one and all. |
I'm meeting 'Mr. Carnet' next week, I'll let you know what I think.

As you are selling good carnets as you say you do why in heavens sake get an e-mail address like you have hungariancarnet at hotmail.com?
That wont sell you any carnets I will tell you that. I would pick affordablecarnet@hotmail.com! I will be looking forward to the reply of Sam! Anyway Sam, when can we expect some new info on yur site as it looks promissing! |
A point of correction:

However, all the issuing countries seem to be getting twitchy with the global situation, and Pakistan and Egypt are off the list now. Sam, please let us know how you go. Mr. Carnet - I agree with Fuchur - an e-mail address like hungariancarnet at hotmail.com, when you yourself describe "Hungarian Carnet" as a general term for forged carnet, isn't going to fill people with confidence. Also, knowing your real name and where you're from would help, as people like to know who they're doing business with. ------------------ Susan Johnson 'One world, two wheels' Horizons Unlimited - THE Motorcycle Travel site |
The website expansion is still on hold (we didn't get second round financing) - although I use it as part of my consultancy.
As regards the carnets, I will put something on this site once I have seen the finished product! I do know Mr.Carnet's name, so he's not THAT shady. I do, however, agree that the 'apparent' secrecy is not helpful. It should be said that possession of a fake carnet is not illegal - it is if you use it. Sam. |
Oo-er - this is all very exciting - like some plot from an episode of 'Crossroads' - I can hardly wait to hear what Sam has to say about meeting 'Mr Carnet'.
On second thoughts it might turn out to be like an episode from 'Only Fools & Horses'. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif Only kidding 'Mr Carnet' - I'm sure you're no Del boy... Personally I think I'll stick with the AA... ------------------ Fuzzy Duck (I'm quackers about bikes) |

Just to let you all know, that I bought this "Hungarian Carnet" a few months ago, all via e-mail and based on trust, including the money transfer. I received the carnet in time, and it looks very real, very genuine, but it has no water mark. I do not think that this is a big problem. I have shown this carnet at 4 border posts, being Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Burkina and Ghana. They all looked at it, but did not use it, as I am travelling on Malian registration. None of them found anything wrong with the carnet, so I am pretty happy with it and am confident of using it further on. I think that this is a viable alternative for people like myself, who would struggle to get a carnet the traditional way.
Cheers, Heye |
