Cheap carnets, Europe S & E?
I seem to recall that there was a thread saying how it could be possible to organise a Spanish carnet for a reasonable price, does the vehicle need to pass a Spanish MOT to register it in Spain first? What kind of time delay would all of that involve?
People seem to refer to a 'carnet' that the Libyans give you when you drive into Libya, would that be an international carnet [some hope I suppose :) ], or a carnet valid for Libya only? The turkish site http://www.turing.org.tr/eng/triptik.asp seems to refer to quite reasonable fees for carnets, although could be staying silent on the question of a deposit, plus looks as though you would have to register the vehicle in Turkey, [involving import duty?] Other suggestions? Eastern Europe? cheers |

hi !!! I am Not a big fan of the Carnet thing but... here It is :
In Spain , all cars older than 5 years are valued *(for carnet purposes ) only 600 Euros. The carnet itself is around 150 Euros. (non refundable) Basicly , you get your car , put 600 euros in a Spanish bank account , get a receipt , go to the RACE , pay your 150 Euros , and "Mannana" you get your Carnet. Two years ago , they only did that for Spanish registered car, but =deppending on the mood of the carnet-lady = they sometimes issue carnets to any European-plated caR (those with the blue EU thingy at the left , France , Portugal , Spain , Italy , Germany , -not sure about UKs- , and probbably Belgium ) If someone is interested , I can search for the telephone number/email to inquire -no English spoken - Have a nice day |
