you can get your Seguro in Colombia through the Seguros del Estado S.A.
and pay for only the days you want to use it p costs about .50 USD a day

just insured a bike with fake papers, as well as my own no problem

I RECOMMEND DOING THIS NOW - last year in Colombia I was stopped about 10 times and never asked for insurance, this year so far 3 times by Trafico and asked each time ! I think the fine is about 200 usd and they take your bike and licenses right there...........I know people who go through without it....including me........but no more for me.
UPDATE .... JUST STOPPED TWICE MORE TODAY - same thing - looking for seguro - lots of motos being pulled over as well.....at all the checkpoints...

also - Chaleco is advised again - been hassled again in Bogota without it, you can get a cheapie for less tha 15 bucks USD with your placa numbers anywhere there are moto shops

haha just making sure... For moto insurance in Colombia, there are many companys who would want $50 USD a day or more......... :thumbup1:

I know it's off topic but may I ask what they call your vehicle ownership docs/title in Spanish down there. Sounds like you guys will know.

I followed the link you posted and, using the search facility, found the nearest office to my hotel. It turned out to be:

Antiguo Country, Calle 83 No. 19-10

I struggled a little because I don't speak Spanish but the staff there were very friendly. They told me that the minimum was 2 months and the cost was just under $52,000 Colombian. They asked for my passport, license, title, and importation documents. It took less than an hour.

actually there is no minimum - it's just if the agents want a minimum from you.
Legally you only have to buy the days stated on your import papers, no more.

Thank you Zigeuner for posting the address in Bogota. We went to the office in Bogota yesterday and even though our import permit and passport both stated 60 days we were able to purchase insurance for 30 days ($28 700 Colombian pesos).
