Crossing into South Africa and Exporting to Argentina without Carnet

Hello All,

I am in Cadiz, Spain at the moment and am planning to ride down the west coast of Africa to Cape Town. Then ship the bike air freight to Buenos Aires.

Q1. Having read all the paperwork and lists/opinions of all on here it appears that I WILL need a carnet to get into Namibia/Botswana and South Africa. Has anyone got RELATIVELY RECENT experience of doing it WITHOUT a carnet?

Q2. With regard to shipping the bike to Argentina, will a Carnet be required ?????

Thanks!!!

getting a bike or vehicle into Argentina is straightforward, and you don't need a carnet. But I you do have one from your time in Africa, you could still use it to enter in Argentina, I think it would make it even less complicated. We crossed the Uruguayan border pretty fast, and didn't use the carnet any more. Ask you Carnet issuing company on the rules of sending it back and getting your refund. We could send it back with a copy of our transit form of Uruguay.
