Do I need any paperwork to ride through Croatia?
 

I just found out the road I was planning on riding to Slovenia is still under construction and all the route planers suggest a short detour through croatia. Little worried because I will be going tomorrow and I know I wont be able to get any paperwork in time if I need it.

I drove down there and back by car in Sept. Nothing special needed - see the AA website for details.

Presuming you're from the UK you won't have any probs riding into Croatia.

Just came through bits of Greece, Albania, Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia. No one asked for insurance except Albania (where they admonished me for not having insurance and told me to stop at the first town and buy some....which I did not, once I got bids of about 45 Euro for anywhere from a month to a year, but no coverage for the other countries I was missing). Note that I am not recommending running insurance-free, but it seems to have worked for me, since I am now back in Italy where my green card coverage works. Just try very hard not to hit anyone or anything. This might be harder than you think, since some of the roads are slicker than the proverbial snot when wet.

All the above countries asked at one time or another for registration, and some actually checked to see that my plate number matched. No one seemed to care that I am also carrying my title.

you'll be lucky if they even ask to see any papers at all on the border....Don't worry.

Petrol
 

The petrol stations in the motorways should have petrol I have been told but not sure I didn't check. Apparently the trucks supplying to the petrol stations in the motorways are escorted by the police.

If you are in Venice or Mestre you can take the motorway Autostrada A4 at Mestre toward Trieste which is free between Mestre and Quarto D'Altino (for about 20Km), you will find two petrol stations before you have to pay the toll at Quarto D'Altino, you may be lucky and find petrol. If not, go out and get in again opposite direction: there are other two on the other side.

I am not sure how many have done this but considering the congestion around the area I suppose people would rather stay home than get stuck by the blockages of trucks around the motorways entrance/exits but you have a bike it should be easy to slip through.

We were in Croatia two months ago and no special paperwork required. Although our insurance did cover Croatia no one ever asked to see it.
