Expired carnet during the trip

My carnet has expired around 5 months ago, but I am still on the road roughly one year (maybe will renew it later during the trip).
I got contacted by ADAC in Germany (I got my carnet from them) and they asked me to send my expired carnet back to them.

I asked how I can proof that I have brought my bike back to Germany if I do not have carnet (normally need to get customs to put final marking to the carnet when arriving back to resident country).
Answer from ADAC was that they just need to wait roughly one year to see if there are any claims from any country (this is the time that takes me to get my money back)!

I do not think it should go this way...

Has anyone else had similar kind of situation?

A friend of mine had the same issue. He then went to his embassy in the first country where no Carnet was needed and they signed the carnet; stating that he still had the bike and that he was in a country where no Carnet was needed. The ADAC accepted that. You might wanna check with them if this would work. In my opinion the bigger problem will be to find an embassy willing to do that...

Good luck

Hi!

Another option, even you do not need the Carnet the country you're in probabley will issue you a temporary import paper.
Just to show the bike arrived in a country where no Carnet is needed.
ADAC accepted that from us.
