Getting a carnet on the road!
Leaving Australia for South America Feb 2010 on the start of RTW. Info on the HUBB would seem to indicate that I don,t need a carnet for any countries in the Americas. Is this the case, and if so can an Aussie by a carnet in Europe for the trip down through Africa, where I understand it is necessary?
Would I have to return to Europe to wind up the carnet or could I ship back to Australia from Africa and settle the carnet by mail? As I plan to be in the Americas for two years it appears crazy and bloody expensive to get a carnet that I won't get any value from for the first two years of my trip. Any ideas on hoe to tackle this? Thanks |
I suggest you talk to your Auto club's carnet dept. I'm sure something can be arranged.

There's no requirement for Carnet anywhere in the Americas. You would just send the Carnet back to the issuing organisation at the end of the trip.
Hope that helps |

Not sure how much help this will be to you, but in 2008 I met some French people who were able to get a French ATA carnet DHL'd out to them in Bangkok. Not sure of the procedure they followed, but I know it involved the French Embassy. I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to it because I already had my own.
