Green card for USA registred car in Europe
Hello guys, I do not have a bike but, one day I ill get one.
I am driving my car in Europe, and My green card expired. I need a new insurance for USA registered car. I have tags valid for another year and travel on American passport. AIG USA, does not offer this option any more for green card Europe, and I have no clue how I can get an insurance here, t be valid for all member states. I have seen some posted about ARISA, Luxembourg, that they offer insurance for foreign registration cars . I wonder if there is any other options for this. Is so bad that there is no company in USA to offer such a option for American citizens traveling in Europe with their cars. Thank you |
I know that USAA offeres car insurance on US vehicles in Europe (and just about everywhere else in the world). Probably doesn't help you much unless you are/were in the military and kept your USAA account open.
There are also plent of independant insurance companies around US Military posts in Europe that specialize in this type of insurance. That might be a starting point. |

That its true for the military , but as long as I am not in the military , it does not help. I called geico and they were not very friendly to offer this, Aig does not have this in the system anymore, Clements (not for tourists), and there is no other option. The companies like State farm, Framers, 21 Century, Progressive, they do no offer it. Kinda sucks, I have no other option for now. thanks for posting :))) any other option or similar situations. chris |

Did you actually try ARISA?: ARISA Assurances S.A. - Luxembourg Jessica Ries ARISA Assurances S.A. 5,rue Eugène Ruppert L-2453 Luxembourg Tel : 00352 262940-56 Fax : 00352 262940-40 E-Mail : j.ries@arisa.lu If ARISA doesn't work, and IF you are physically in Germany, you can obtain Euro Green Card coverage for your USA-registered vehicle from almost any ADAC (German auto club) office, ADAC - Ihr Partner in allen Fragen rund um die Mobilität. (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club), throughout the country--you have to go personally to an ADAC office and present your vehicle reg, etc. You might also be able to get Euro Green Card cover from a Swiss auto club, www.acs.ch, or Italian auto club, Automobile Club d'Italia: Home page, office. |
I wrote an email to Arisa, and let see what they do, I am not in Germany, but it would be nice if ADAC would do that insurance online or over the phone.
I wait and see what will happen. Does anybody know the price for a 6 month policy, family car audi a4 avant 1.8 t. ? just asking |

Note, so there isn't any confusion: ARISA is the underwriter for Green card coverage sold at ADAC offices; ARISA also sells the Green card coverage direct to customers who are not physically in Germany (or has in the past year, anyway) |

crazy expensive
I just looked over your post, and what I seen is very high insured amount, 1 mil euro, who in the word would cause such a damage. and 3 person max, 7.5 million euros..
This is non sens, You would need max 50 000 euro, damage and whatever, that it. I pay the insurance for my audi 1.8 t avant, 2003, 176 usd, for 6 months, around 105 euros 6 months and its Los Angeles California. traffic accidents every day. You know there is one thing that I hate in Europe, they like to take as much money from Everything,,,, one day they will tax, how many times you make sex, and they will ask you to insure your wife... its a joke but look. I consider crazy expensive and its pure robbery , that this company is just asking so much for the premium, they should have discounted amount for 2 months and up, maxim 500 euro per year, for a family car, and 300 per bike. Do not buy this, its robbery, try smt else and if you find a better option , let me know too... right now I do not have insurance , except the one from Usa... who cares..... I do not pay so much for nothing......... If you are a good driver, you should not be required to have insurance, I consider mandatory insurance is just a trick to keep this insurance companies not going broke and give them a lot o money in bonuses. American Freedom, live like an Egale gedeon |
too much
hi gedeon,
you're absolutely right, its pure craziness. I'm not going to pay 105 euros a month for their insurance, even if I have to ride without any... it worked out sofar too... cheers |
It's not any justification for such an sharp increase, but 105 Euros per month now quoted by ARISA is about the same as USD$ 186 that AIU/ USA was charging until they stopped Euro Green Card in 2009. GEICO/ USA was even more expensive before they stopped writing Green Card for US-registered vehicles.
Don't forget: without the Green Card, you could be in a lot more legal and financial hassle than 105 Euros/ mo, if you're in an accident--regardless of how good a driver you are or who is at "fault"--or are simply stopped for a vehicle paper check, and don't have the insurance paper. If you're shipping/ importing a vehicle into EU, most Euro Customs offices will not allow the vehicle out of the airport or seaport without a Green Card. It'll be interesting to see if ADAC (Germany auto club) also increases their Green Card premium the same as ARISA. |
green card
well, I tried my luck with ADAC and they told me that ARISA is a daughter company of ADAC... its 105 euros a month for their insurance!
