Having a bit of a freakout - please help!
Hello all,
I am planning to leave New York in 3 days for Tierra del Fuego. I was under the impression that I needed to have my motorcycle title with me as proof of ownership, but due to a screw-up with the post office, I am fairly sure that my title was lost in the mail on the way from the Department of Motor Vehicles. So my question is: Is my registration sufficient for border crossings in Central and South America? I have my license and registration showing the bike registered to me, international driving permit, insurance card, and the bike is inspected and bearing a New York State license plate. The only thing missing is the damn title. Will I be okay :confused1:. I've searched through the forum, but have been unable to find a definite answer- Thanks in advance - I'm freaking out!! Obadiah |
Why can't you get a duplicate title? Here in Colorado they print you one while you wait.

You can print a copy of your original and laminate it.

I would get color copies of your title made...and have them notarized...it will look official;)

Still not clear.....
Thanks for your responses, but perhaps I was unclear - I just registered the vehicle, and I'm waiting for the title certificate to come in the mail, so all I have is the registration card. I'm pretty sure that the title has been lost in the mail, and I won't have time to get a new one sent before I leave, so my question is: Can I cross borders in Central and South America with my registration card, but WITHOUT an original/copy of my title of ownership. I've seen conflicting answers on the forum, and I'm not sure what is needed. Thanks!!

hey
read recently on advrider (i think) someone had gone through all of central america with just registration. i came to mexico with just registration with no problem |
Thanks for mentioning Advrider
I checked out Advrider and according to every post I saw, it seems that a notarized copy of the vehicle title OR the registration is sufficient. This has put my mind more at ease, though I am still going to try to get the title business sorted out as well.
Thanks!! O. |
