Help Please?
Hello can someone help me please! :helpsmilie:
I am trying to plan a trip to Australia heading east, iv listed the countries (or route) i am planning on taking but i am new to this and i don’t know very much. Has anyone done it that can tell me which of these countries i will need to get Visa’s for beforehand? And which countries do i “have to have” a carnet for? And is there anything ells i need to plan for regarding paperwork (or know) that i may not yet be aware of? I would really appreciate some help I am very pore at finding things on the internet so even if you could point me in the right direction it would be fantastic. Route Dover - France - Italy - (is it possible to get a ferry to Greece) if so where is the port? Or should i go round??? :scooter: Greece - Turkey - Iran - Pakistan - India - Nepal (is it possible to fly to Thailand from here or do i have to go from India)? Thailand - Cambodia - Vietnam – is it possible to drive a motorbike here iv heard it isn’t allowed? Laos – (which of the “Southeast Asia countries” would it best to fly my bike to Australia from)? Australia – possibly to Canada – Uk? Thanks in advance for any help... :) |
Italy -
Sure, there are lots of ferries to Greece from Venice, Ancona, Bari and probably Brindisi, check out ferrylines.com: Europe's Ferry Booking Portal But if I had the time, I´d go overland including the Adriatic coast in Croatia, which is great. Visas - We did the trip to Oz with my girlfriend 3 years ago, and I think we arranged visas to Iran, Pakistan & India before we left home. But these days Iran&Pakistan might be the hard part, depending on your nationality, definitely worth to find out about them beforehand. Lots of threads about these subjects on this forum. Carnet - Strictly mandatory for Pakistan & India (and Indonesia, if you decide to go there, and I´d certainly recommend!)... also very helpful for Iran and Malaysia. And I think Australia has after our trip changed it to mandatory, when we went, it was just useful. (Nepal I dont know, never been there). Freighting- Nepal seems to be a common place to freight to/from Thailand. Also possible from India and probably Bangladesh... we sent from India, where the bureaucracy was a bit of a handful! From SE Asia to Australia, I think Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore would be the places to send from. Vietnam- Seems to reject all motorbikes regardless of engine size. During the past few years, some have managed to arrange entry (but still very time-consuming AND expensive!) or you could try your luck at the border stations, but I wouldnt count on succeeding. |
You will need a carnet for Iran, Pakistan, India most definitely, Thailand, not sure about othe SE Asia, you will not get into Vietnam with your bike, other SE Asian countries no problem, don't forget Malaysia and Singapore, ship your bike to Oz from here.
Not so sure about the visas, when I went that way you first got Pakistan, then Iran in advance. The Indian one in Pakistan and Nepal in India, fly your bike from Nepal. There are already answers to this question here somewhere. Check that you have medical insurance that covers you for motorcycling on a bike above 125cc if that is what you are taking. Not sure when you plan to leave but August/September is best, this will give you time to go to the hu travellers meeting at Ripley and find out everything you will ever need to know. :scooter: |
