Help! Urgent advice needed on GB Sticker
Hi,
After planning my trip for over a year i have made a bit of an error. I'm on the road on a trip from London to Sydney and i've left home without a GB sticker for the bike. Unfortunately i don't have an EU number plate. I'm currently in Ivrea in Italy heading for the ferry port in Ancona. I've asked everywhere and can't seem to pick up one locally. I've improvised using an Italian sticker by folding it in half and using a black marker pen to write GB. I then gaffer taped the flap down. Is this acceptable or will i have problems somewhere in the world. I'm heading through the stans, china, pakistan, India. If not, does anyone know of a place in Milan where i'll be able to pick one up. Help would be gratefully received. Russ |
Since it's urgent, why not try the search function: "gb sticker." The answer hasn't changed at all.
Hope that helps. Mark |
Russ -your improvisation should be fine -
As Britain is in the EU- I would suggest you just pick a 'EU' one up in Italy since you are there.- The lack of a country 'identifier' can, on occasions, be an opportunity for some official to spot fine you - Check in garages, car accessory shops- car and motorcycle dealerships. enjoy your trip:) |

If your way is through Sofia,Bulgaria, please just drop me a line.We can arange a GB sticker for you, free of charge. Enjoy your trip! Cheers, Simon |
As far as I'm aware there is no legal obligation to show the 'EU' badge. If you have something showing GB then you should have no problem.
Just read the AA information and a GB sticker is fine - nomention of having to have the EU badge at all Search results: "gb" - AAtravelshop |
Please don't take this the wrong way but i'm sure you will look back at this post in 20k mls time and chuckle.
I'm pretty convinced it will not cause you any problems. Good luck with the trip and keep us posted. Pete |
I've never heard of anyone being pulled in the UK for not displaying the country of origin sticker. If you are that worried when you land in good ole Blighty just head for the nearest Halfords store (can be found on most out of town shopping malls these days). Your improvised GB sticker should be just fine though - you only have to display it - it doesn't state anywhere that it has to be a piece of artwork

Just visit any sign shop you happen to spot along the way - they will be able to make you one up in about 20 minutes.
All they need is a very basic signmaking machine that prints on white plastic - they print the two letters GB, then you cut it to an oval shape. Heck, you could probably make a suitable one up in an internet cafe using a laser printer, and cover it with adhesive plastic. |
Thanks for the helpful advice everyone.
I also bought a couple of number plate stickers and put then on as well. The official at the ferry from italy to greece didn't bat an eye lid. I've also got a mate posting me the proper sticker to istanbul so i'll put that on when it arrives. Hadn't planned on visiting Bulgaria, thanks for the kind offer anyway. Seems like all will be fine. After my initial panic i'm sat the ferry drinking a beer and smiling...... |

I rode around the world without any sticker on my bike and nobody ever noticed or cared.
