how to ship the bike from singapore/S. Africa
Hi there!
Our name is Roy and Lathoya, we are doing atw tour and we are now in Malesia . We are planning to go to S. Africa and fly the bikes from Singapore...Can anybody recommend a shipping company there?? If so..what are the cost from Singapore - S Africa. We also heard that the land borders between Sudan and Egypt are closed?????The only option is a ferry??? hope somebody can help us out. greetings Roy and Thoy. |
Because of paperwork, I don´t know, if it would make sense to get the bikes into Singapore, just to send them onwards from there (it´s small, you could easily go & see Singapore on public transport, and the bikes stay at a guesthouse in Johor Bahru, for example).
Malaysia´s got Kuala Lumpur (KLIA) airport, with connections to practically anywhere... not far from Singapore, and connected by a big highway. And Malaysia Airlines´ cargo (MASKargo) seems to offer a pretty good service at a reasonable price. I used them 4 years ago from Chennai to Bangkok. Some travellers have even recommended to use Malaysian, when transporting from South America to South Africa! Sorry, maybe others have more info than me about freight agents in Malaysia. But I´d most certainly ask MASKargo about that shipment. And also remember to ask, if it´d be possible to send uncrated, which might cut down the costs. There was just recently a thread about sending with them to Amsterdam, and that was uncrated (...but if you´re worried about a few new scratches on the bikes, then it might be best to crate them!) |
Thanks for responding!!
We are now in KL and tried to fly with MAS cargo...they were indeed very helpful but....... The cost to south Africa was so high we could not believe it!!! It would cost us 6000 dollar (without crating!!) for 2 bikes. We asked what it would cost us to fly to Amsterdam and that was about 2000???? Another problem with Malaysia airlines was that all flight's to S.A had been scraped!!! So we are now trying to get a better deal with other airlines but it looks like we're gonna lose a lot of money!! By ship is cheaper but it takes way to long. |
