hungarian carnet
This is a fairly simple post. I can forsee extreme difficulties setting up a legitmate carnet for my bike. (I live out in the bush and don't often have acess to e-mail, phone, etc.) Therefore, I'm looking into getting a so-called "hungarian" carnet.
Any suggestions? I tried getting in touch with MrCarnet, but no reponse. Brian |
Hi !!!
From what I heard lately , that's a pretty bad idea. Most and most countries actually FAX the carnet import receipt to Swiztherland , to have confirmation of autenthicity.Horror stories are told about people being sent to -local- prison for the ages to come for that fake carnet thing. At least , in Ghana , they do such a check (not in the border , but while you carelessly cruise the country ) and you are arrested upon exit of the country. Alternatively , I heard (and actively researching !!! ) the possiblity of a new "European Union Carnet" ,which features a all new -blue- design , definitely different format , -with translations in arabib , french , english ,etc.. valid in all the world ,stating that it replaces and superseedes the old format carnet , with a operative fax number , Web page , email , and answerphone , and obviously much more Laser Printer friendly. OBVIOUSLY FAKE ('cos such a thing doesnt exists at all) , but they have no way to know (as long as it has a fax number which sends back confirmation of autenthicity). http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif Apparently such a thing exists (there are people using it , selling it ,etc.. ) .That thing appears to me much less risky than just a counterfeit carnet. Any ideas ? Javier. Quote:

Javier,
Thanks for the heads up. I haven't gotten any responses to my various inquiries for an hungarian carnet, so I've started the tedious procedure of getting the real thing. However, if you get a line on where to the get the EU carnet mentioned in you post, let me know. I would still like to avoid all of this bureaucratic hullabaloo. Thanks, Brian |
