Indian Driving License Valid in UK????
Hello,
Am travelling to the UK from India(where I hold a valid driving License) and would like to know if it is valid in the UK. I checked out this site: http://www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/drvi...her%20countries and it says "Provided your full licence remains valid, you can drive any category of small vehicle shown on your licence for up to 12 months from the time you became resident. To ensure continuous driving entitlement a provisional GB licence must have been obtained and a driving test(s) passed before the 12 month period elapses. If you obtain a provisional licence during this period, you are not subject to provisional licence conditions e.g. displaying `L' plates or being supervised by a qualified driver or being precluded from motorways." Now I have been to the UK before(3 years back) - and I cant find out if this means that I cant drive it - or if I can still do so - I am going to be on a Business Visa on some work. hoep someone can help with legalese???!! Get an International Driving Permit. It is probably available from your Indian AA. This is just a translation of your national permit and you need to carry both with you.
If you think that you are going to stay longer than 12 months in GB then you should consider getting a GB licence, once you are settled in. I don't think it matters that you've been to GB before. In any case, no cop will know about it, so don't tell anybody. ------------------ Salut from Southern France, the bikers' paradise, Peter. |
