Insurance C4 (Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador)
 

Hi,

we are about to cross into Guatemala from Belize and have been unable to obtain motorcycle insurance for Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador so far.
(Bikes are from Canada). Last year we had the AIG South/Central America insurance but apparently AIG has stopped underwriting this and we have not been able to find a replacement so far and we also haven't been able to find a local company in Guatemala which is willing to insure bikes with foreign plates so far.
Nicaragua, Panama and Costa Rica are no problem as well as Mexico and Belize
as insurance is mandatory and can be bought at the border.
Does anybody has experience with Guatemala/Honduras/El Salvador in 2015 ?

I crossed from Mexico into Guatemala last week. No insurance required. Border officials were very friendly and the process was well organized.

We traveled in Guatemala, El Salvador & Honduras without insurance. Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama require Insurance which needs to be bought at the border (and is quite cheap). We tried in Guatemala to obtain insurance locally with different companies (our friend who is a resident has insurance in Guatemala which covers C4 and also Nicaragua, CR and Panama) but have not been able to find a company willing to provide this for non locally registered bikes.
