INSURANCE FOR WORLD TRIP

TIMES RUNNING OUT!!!
MY WIFE AND I ARE PLANNING A TWO YEARish TRIP AROUND EUROPE,EGYPT,AFRICA AND THAILAND BEGINNING IN JANUARY(SCOTLAND & IRELAND FIRST), BUT WE'RE HAVING TROUBLE FINDING INSURANCE. YOU SEE OUR UK INSURANCE WILL ONLY COVER US FOR EUROPE AND THEN ONLY FOR 3 MONTHS MAX AND REQIRE ENTRY AND EXIT DATES FOR EACH COUNTRY. CAN ANYONE SUGGEST WHERE I CAN START LOOKING OR WHO WE CAN GET INSURANCE FROM. ANY OTHER TIPS ON THE SUBJECT WOULD ALSO BE USEFUL.
THANX

Hi Griff

If you're looking for travel medical insurance, see contact details in the Trip Planning - Safety & Health section of this site at:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tri...dicalInsurance

As for motorcycle insurance, outside of Europe and North America it isn't generally available. This topic has been covered a few times. Here's one link:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb...ML/000126.html

You can also search (top of the page) on 'medical insurance' or 'motorcycle insurance' to find all posts and info on the topic. It is usually worth doing that before posting an inquiry, since the answer may already be on the Board or the site.

BTW, ALL CAPS is considered to be SHOUTING, and is bad form on the Web.

Good luck and safe travels!

Look (for example) at http://www.alessie.com

and a search on the net for "globetrotter insurance" rendered me with plenty results.

Next to that, any well-assorted insurance broker should be able to sell you worldwide insurance, but beware for clauses excluding "dangerous and stupid things" like driving a motorcycle (my mom was right after all...)

Happy Travels!

I just bought a policy from ELVIA, I presume an international insurance company. A very comprehensive travel and medical insurance. Search for ELVIA. Telephone in Holland is +31 20 561 87 11.

Good luck!

Auke,

I remember looking at the policy of the Elvia insurance and remember a strange clause on driving in general not being covered. As you have probably checked this, this is not the case and the Elvia insurance suits you well for your travel?

I was looking for an insurance too. Especially for Marocco. Just got a call from my agent that he came up with some stuff. I am meeting him tomorrow.

I'll explain him your problem.
I'll keep you posted.

Ok, had a talk with my insurance agent. He proposed Inter Partner Assistance.

I can get an insurance 'Inter Partner Assistance' that covers basicly all the world except country's or regions at war.
You can choose for how long you take is. A renewable full year contract is possible and is also the cheapest.
The bike is covered in whole of Europe, some Eastern Europe countries and some North African countries.
A year contract only (?) costs 110,31 Euro or about 68£.
My insurance-agent told me that I can trust this company. He told me it should be possible to get an insurance with this company even if your not living in Belgium. Or mayby they have a Brittish branche.

I will get this one because it also covers me when I am in panne right in front of my house or anywhere else in my homecountry. And for Marocco it also covers my bike.

I found a real nice insurance. Aspecially since it has no time-limits like most others I encountered.
It's from "the Joho company" witch is specialized in expat and travel. WWW.JOHO.NL it's a dutch company, but since they work internationaly.... who know's.
Great thing: you can start and prolong your insurance through internet. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif

hi,
from what i understtod, no insurance comany will insure your bike for a world tour.
french and european law (contact ffmc in france, fema in europe) is valid for 3 months maximum abroad.
you're insured for the first 3 months ONLY IF you come back home before 3 months.
for the driver, in france, i have the choice between europe assistance, mondial assistance, elvia, ava, avi : you have to mention bike riding if it is covered they consider it as a risky sports, i don't know yet about prices.
if you have concrete info on prices (how much per month for which garanties) , it's welcome :-)

same stories with credit cards, sometimes they offer insurance etc ... valid for 3 or 6 months if you come back home.

ride safe
