Insurance policies longer than 31 days are no more.
They're disappearing. FAST. If not altogether
Navigator = Suspended all new policies Holidaysafe = No new policies longer than 31 days. These are the two 'Go to' insurance companies for Overlanders. In the U.K. Anyway. Is getting insurance for Overlanding now impossible ? |

That's been the case with standard and multitrip policies for a few years that I know of.
Look at Backpacker and Gap Year policies instead |
Did I imagine it or wasn't this a big thread just a few days ago? Or maybe it was on the Facebook group.
Anyway, there are underwriters out there who will cover longer trips and older riders. Big Cat - user friendly but appears to cover bikes for "ON ROAD" use only. Dogtag - good reports but doesn't appear to be accepting new business at the moment. cmsltd.com - American broker who seems to offer what we need and will take UK riders. Forget Voyager/Navigator/Holidaysafe in any case, all underwritten by TIF Group who get dreadful reviews for refusing claims. And World Nomads will not cover UK riders for bikes above 125cc. |

Overlanding is taking a massive hit at the moment. Has anyone even bothered getting a quote for shipping lately ? I was reading a BBC article that suggested a container is now 400% more expensive than pre-covid due to all the shortages. doh |

I saw a fellow post this comment about the increased costs of shipping in another forum I read:
"I thought I would share these real world ocean freight container shipping prices that I just received this morning from one of my suppliers. This is a great example of why pricing for almost everything is skyrocketing. 1 shipping container from Europe to Canada; Mid-2019: $3,000 Cnd April 2021: $6,000 Cnd July 14, 2021: $23,000 Cnd"... |

The worlds "Just in time" systems collapsed because of the pandemic and Chinese market pressures. The shipping containers are all tied up as additional storage for stuff no one can use until other stuff turns up, half full of rush orders to be followed days later by another half full one, or stood empty in Europe because there is nothing completed to go into them to ship back East.
Supply and demand says prices increase accordingly. There is no sign of any end to it. We've had fifty years of "just in time" so a whole generation of accountants turn funny colours when you suggested buying when available and holding stock. There are no warehouses and no stock controllers able to handle the concept. It ends when demand collapses so supply can catch up. The economics will destroy more lives than the disease. Andy |

All this will raise cost of overlanding too. Travel costs of health insurance/screening will be driven by the global health crisis. As an overlander you will have to deal more with varying levels of restrictions and limited destinations you can visit will have special prices. I fear that new price levels will never return to prepandemic price level. Because of an increasing demand of luxury and safety in travelling. And as well driven by a higher amount of individual travellers who want to get deeper into their destination, who want to explore the less-populated areas and immerse themselves in nature. Travellers will look to minimise the number of tourists they come into contact with and smaller local accommodation options will be focused much more than in the past. |
containers
Last week I heard from a family member working in Felixstowe UK port that he has actually been loading empty containers onto ships bound for China.
