Iran transit East-West impossible for Germans?
 

I have just found this statement on the web site of the German Foreign Office (http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/www/d...=3&land_id=129), neatly hidden away in the Pakistan page:

"Due to the risk of abductions in the border region between Iran and Pakistan the German Embassy in Islamabad no longer issues letters of recommendation to obtain visas for Iran."

It is my understanding that you can't get an Iranian visa in India and in Pak they demand this letter. Is it now effectively impossible for Germans to travel East-West through Iran?

Have any Germans recently obtained an Iranian visa in the East?

Luckily I'll be heading the other way and I don't intend to come back!

this is interesting news, since I am currently in southeast asia and am planning to head west via Pakistan and Iran next year.

I admit that I did not do any research yet, but is there anything speaking against obtaining visa in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or any other place (India?) for Iran?

And was the situation in Pakistan really getting worse during the last month?

I have no further info. But, when I tried to get an Iranian visa in Mumbai and Delhi in 1989 the answers were NO.
