Iran visa changes for British passport holder 2014
I arrived in Istanbul a few days ago hoping to collect my 'authorisation code' having applied for it it March. Due to Iran New Year (closure of the Tehran MFA office) it didn't get processed until early April and then the requirements for British & Canadian passport changed. It is now a requirement to have a 'guide' whilst in Iran (same as for Americans). As this has just happened I cannot find much information on-line.
I have contacted various Iran visa agencies who have all confirmed this. I still want to travel in Iran but cannot afford the guide cost. Is anyone else in this situation? Has anyone found a 'loophole'? Does anyone want to join me to reduce the guide cost? I was planning to enter Iran mid - end May. Dan |
Hi Dan, that is bad news we are in Bulgaria and just about to start the process of applying for visas numbers etc to travel to Iran and then UAE/saudi and then on to sudan.
We are on a slow travel ( old unimpg camper ) so timing is not important although May would be ideal for us. Is it definite that we as UK passport holders needs a guide or is it a case of meet guide at border and they then leave you ? I am not sue we will progress if we actually need a guide. please keep us informed of your progress, if I find another way I will also share good luck |
At the same time a carnet de passage is also required right ? Such a pity so much troubles, spetially for a country that links (very eastern) Europe to Asia
|
Yes that's true, so given how much the RAC want to charge and the bribes in eygpt , we have said we are going down the west cost and are currently half way between the Black Sea and Gibraltar, it is an easier trip for us.

How much is being asked for a guide through Iran?

For a UK citizen, Pars agency provided the following info:
The guided driver will be 175 USD per day. The guide will be 95 USD per day. (*SEE BELOW) If the arrival city and departure city will be different one or two extra day will be added to the price, depending on the distance of the departure city. *If your car would have the capacity to take the guide, then the guide can use your car, if not you need to book a guided driver to escort your car. In that price the food of guide is included, other things would be arranged by you. (This includes accommodation, which the visitor must arrange, I confirmed.) Thinking of the case of two or more motorbikes wanting to travel together, I asked a further question: If three cars were travelling together and there was no space in any of them for a guide, would just one guide be sufficient for the three cars? The answer was: One guide would be ok. For me, enjoying travelling alone and sleeping somewhere in my vehicle, as on my last trip through Iran, a nightmare - economically and otherwise. Trip cancelled. Sins of the UK government visited upon its citizens. |
I still haven't got a guide for Iran. I'm in Georgia and getting fed up of spending so much time getting nowhere. Does anyone know of anyone actually getting a guide to follow bikes in Iran. Any current informations or contacts would be appreciated. Dan

I still haven't got the guide but an agency says they have one and they have submitted my application to Tehran. I'm now waiting and as soon as I have an update I will.
Happy travels. |
