Iran visa - refused
 

I just got off the phone with the Iranian embassy in Ottawa. They refused my visa for Iran. I called because they had my passport for the last month. No explanation given, no refund (bastards) and I had to basically beg the guy to send it back in the pre-paid envelop. Now what? I guess I'll try when I'm in Brussels ...

Apparently, Ankara is the place to get your Iranian visa. But if the new policy actually gets implemented then by the time you get there you won't need one.

Bedhist, what new policy do you speak of? The 15 day border permit?

What info you had on VISA application form?

Did you put anything to do with journalism, TV etc or anything about your job? Are you travelling with female companion you're not marryed with? There are few various reasons muslim Islamic Republic are hesitating on. Why i'm saying so is that maybe you had something "too sensitive" information in your VISA application form and you can fix it with the next application.

But as sayed before - first try to get it in Bruxssels, if refused, then in Ankara, Turkey. I guess 1 of them shoud work out of 3.

$$$ I asked and they said I had to travel with an organized group and book the visa through them. I asked why and said I followed the paper application to the letter, including a CV with all the details etc., as requested.
What info you had on VISA application form?

$$$ No. I did submit a resume (CV) as per the application form. I’m a management consultant, don’t think that’s an issue.

Just had this response when asking Magic Carpet Travel (a UK travel agency specialising in obtaining Iranian visas) about obtaining the 15 day visa at the border.

We have also heard this information. However, we have not had single British applicant who has been brave enough to try this out. No one wants to risk getting to the border and finding out they will not be given a visa after all.

All I can tell you is that I had a meeting at the Iranian Consulate in London a couple of weeks ago and they told me all British passport holders need a visa before the arrive in Iran. They are also being quite tough at the moment anyway, asking for extra information and taking longer to issue the visas.

Also I just literally accepted a visa application form a chap who is in Istanbul at the moment, perhaps because he found out he did need to get a visa before he got to the border.

My advice to you is if your plans are time sensitive, then do not risk it and make sure you get a visa before you get to the border. However, if you have time, then rock up to the border and see what happens. If you decide to try it, then please let me know if you get a visa and we can tell others.

Also please note the Iranian visa section will close from March 10th for 3 weeks, for the Iranian new year and they will not accept any applications during that time. So you should either look into getting a visa before March 10th or end of March.

If you decide to apply for a visa before you get to border, let me know and I will give you further info.

Well, I just got word from the Iranian embassy in Brussels that they will not issue me a visa.

Kevin, have you visited an Iranian embassy in person yet? I spoke to an Iranian businessman prior to beginning our trip and he mentioned that the government in Iran suffers from a "lack of published rules and regulations". He also stated that getting business done in Iran always works better when its conducted face to face.

I would make a few visits to some Iranian embassies in Europe in person to explain your situation and to demonstrate your professional character.

Remember that embassies typically have lots of latitude on what they can do for you, but its always easier to get results by visiting the embassy in person. We had to go to 3 separate embassies before we found an embassy willing to issue our Pakistan visas. Iran is tougher these days, but don't give up yet.

Do you have a plan "B" yet?
