kiwi passport uk bike?
 

hi there i was wondering if anyone here would know if I (a kiwi ) can take my uk reg bike to nz for a bit of touring?ive herd id have to change it into nz reg which is a hassle.me and the bike are in australia at the mo and id love to do a trip home on it at xmas maybe stay till may next yr.im not interested in hiring a bike as shipping cant be that much and we(me and my bike) have done so much togeather and get on well,any info be great cheers cam

If you are bringing it under Carnet, you have no restriction, providing you export it with time. As a temporary import, you will have to pay the 15% GST value deposit and that will be returned when you export. For both ways there are various other fees, most people saying goodbye to about $400 all up. I'm not sure on the length of time, but one year comes to mind.

cheers nigel im out in oz on a carnet from the uk but i was told by someone i met ages ago that if i hold a kiwi passport and want to take my bike to nz then i have to change the reg over?i should probably call MOT in nz and ask would be good to ship it over for a tour ive travelled loads of other countries but never see my own..
