lack of personal liability insurance
All the insurance cover that i can find for travelling on bikes in India does not cover damage to anyone else or their property whilst on the motorbikes. Should some such thing happen, what are the likely financial consequence... or where can i get insurance that would cover it?

Hi Katy,
Welcome to the HUBB! You can buy third party insurance here, but only in the big cities. However, unless you have a fixed address in India you're unlikely to get any money as it takes a while to process claims. The majority of drivers here don't even have a driving licence, let alone insurance so I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you're unlucky enough to be involved in an accident and you hurt someone or damage something the best thing to do is pay some money on the spot and make a swift exit before the police get involved. Once the police are on the scene you'll almost certainly have to pay some baksheesh to get yourself out of the situation. As a rough guide, 1000/2000 Rupees (£13/26) will make most people happy - with an average annual income of £1000 twenty quid goes along way in India. If you have any more questions about India drop me an email. Harvey ------------------ no pipe, no slippers www.chasingthesun.org |
