By Land, Sea, and Air - USA to Germany via Iceland

Map of our plan We will be moving from San Diego, CA to Geilenkirchen, Germany this summer and plan to do so on our pair of G650GS motorcycles. Here is the rough plan:
As for documentation, I don't even know where to start. We have the titles for both motorcycles. Is a Florida state registration good enough to get them into Iceland, Faroe Islands, Denmark, Germany? Same for our Florida drivers license? I imagine I will also have to get a green insurance card for both motorcycles as well? So many questions that I don't know where to start. Thanks in advance, Travis & Chantil |
Hi... It's not often that a vehicle from USA steps foot on my island. But I've seen some with US plates.I remember one company that came to test their jeeps...Maybe you can send them a question about customs clearance in Iceland... https://www.aev-conversions.com/

There was a great thread on ADVrider by a guy who took a British-registered BMW X Adventure around Iceland and Faroe via the Smyril ferry.
7 days on the Faroe islands seems like a lot. The free stopover option gives you 3 days I think? Consider leaving more time for Iceland. The Faroes are quite small. On the ferry, no problem with documentation or packing - ride the bikes on, park them where you're told, strap them to the floor, go to your cabin. Iceland is part of the EEA and Schengen, so there shouldn't even be any customs formalities at that point. State registration and title, basically originals of all your paperwork associated with the vehicles, drivers' licenses, passports of course. Green Card insurance you can buy online - it should be valid for the entire EU/EEA, from Iceland onwards. Rules for temporary importation of vehicles to Iceland - seems reasonably straightforward? |
