Live in Norway-Buy in Germany-Travel to India

I live in Norway and have a norwegian (and an irish) passport. My permanent adresse is in Norway. Due to the highest tax on vehicles anywhere in the world, I would like to buy a BMW F650GS Dakar anywhere but Norway (Germany, Sweden?)to bring it to India, Nepal & Thailand in Nov/Dec,and then back to the county where I bougth it. Does anyone have any experience with buying a bike in Europe, without having an adresse in that country, and would it be difficult to get a carnet for it. How would it be to get it in to India, when its bougth in a different country than where I have my permanent adresse?

Hai,

In Holland, buying (and registering) a bike without a local (and oficial) adress is not possible.

hola,

to register a bike on your name in Germany you will need an offical address. But you could get Export number plates, valid for one month in Germany, but I don´t know if you can get a carnet with this Export number plates and how it would work with returning to Germany and selling the bike.

ask the Germany ADAC Automobilclub in Munich about the carnet thing with Export number plates.

From Cameron on this topic:

Quote:

"I considered doing the same thing last year, and checked out buying a bike in Britian, mainly for language reasons. Apparently all that is needed is a British mailing address for registration and insurance. You can rent a post office box to satisfy that requirement.
Check out www.autotrader.co.uk/ for prices of used bikes. Good Luck"

Don't know if Britain will be cheaper than Norway to buy a bike, though. Belgium might be another possibility, see the same post.

Good luck!

Rather surprisingly, you can get a carnet from ADAC with export plates (Ausfuhrkennzeichen). It costs you an additional € 153,80 (same as for foreign registerred bike)
