Mauritainian Visa at the Border

Can anyone tell me the current situation with obtaining a Visa at the Morrocan Border ?

A group of us are travelling down to Gambia on Scooters in January 08 and with the Embassy in LOndon closed it would be the best option.

visa

i have just placed this reply on another thread in this section.

we managed to get our Mauritanian visa in Morocco, Casablanca, with no problems whatsoever.
Mauritanian Embassy;GPS N33 33.723 W7 38.688 - there is a campsite only 2 blocks down.

you ar best to plan your visa before you get to the border between Morroco and Mauritainia as there is no love lost between these 2 countries.

read this section of our diary if you want more information
2ridetheworld.com : diary

however, this was a few years back. so just check up on this information.

Mauri Visa

Thanks Lisa,
last trip we got them at the Embassy in London which is of course now closed. We are told we should be able to get them at the French Embassy in London...but they are saying "Non" . Has anybody managed to obtain a visa for overland entry into Mauritania from the London Embassy?

no more visa at casa, you have to go to mauritanian consulate at rabat.
campside in casa is closed.

if you only want to transit mauritania, you can get 3 days transit visa at the border.

hey,

i went to the mori embassy in Rabat this morning. gps is N33 58.834 W6 49.844. you need 2 photos, a copy of your passport and 200dh, and they take a day and a half to get you a visa (i got there at 9 this morning, it should be ready tomorrow at 3pm)

good luck with your trip bikerden!

or get in touch with Bert Den - he sorted mine out in Paris. I gave him a letter authorising him to act on my behalf, a couple of passport photos and my passport. You could probably send one person out to Paris to get everyone sorted at the same time. Allow a couple of days though...

bikerden 21 Nov 2007 21:33

Thanks Fil, it's a pity we didn't think of that before, Bert could have got the lot!!! Guess somebody's gonna have a Eurostar special coming on Eh?

Could just be a plan!

And I might just be mad enough to volunteer :confused1:

I'm in Nouakchott at the moment and a lot of people are just getting the 3 dayer at the border and spending a day chilling here waiting for the extension-takes a day. This is a reasonable option as long as you don't want to spend time getting here.

I can confirm that Casa visa has been closed. Rabat is where you get it.

If you are in Morroco anyway, I would advise you to get it there and not in Nouakchott as an extension of the border transit visa. If you have to wait a day anyway, that day of waiting is spent so much better in Rabat than in Nouakchott, which I am still at a loss of words to describe.

Best regards.

Yep you're right!! Wasn't suggesting you do in NKT but you can as a last resort. Handy to pick up a Mali visa which only takes a day though. Senegal (not the least for the beer) is such a relief.

Mauritanian Visa from London

Hi, just been onto the French Embassy in London. They'll do a visa if you fly to Mauri, but not one if you're going overland. They direct you to Paris, who refer you to back to London if you're a Brit.

Clearly, the closure of the Mauri embassy in London has left a huge hole in visa terms if you're British.

Unless something else comes up, we'll be getting ours in Rabat I think ...

And it used to be so straightforward to get this visa...
