this may give some one a headache
Ok, i am an aussie with both australian and british passport ,i have an american plated bike (in my name) that i am shipping from south america to cape town ,south africa, the bike is a 2000 model klr with over 120,000 km on the clock valued at max $1200 -$1500 USD (it is well beaten up),is it possible to get a carnet with these details or can i easily import it to south africa and replate it ,or get away without a carnet as my bike is not worth much (get permision at borders) ,oh yeah i am riding north to europe in 2010

Flying my german registered old GS to South Africa in 2006 required a carnet that was 3,000 Euros. Apparently this is the minimum carnet value for southern Africa, which was more than my bike was worth...
For OZ the minimum carnet value is only 1,500 Euros. For Europe you do not require a carnet. Hans |
