MC's over 20yrs- insurance in US and Canada

I cannot find anyone who will insure motorcycles that are over 20 years old. I have contacted via email Sunrise, Motorcycle Express and Progressive and none are interested. We will be shipping two BMW R65's from Australia (Perth) into Vancouver in July and will need coverage for the US and Canada for a maximum of two months (after that we'll be on our way south). Our local car club suggested that we looked for insurance once we get to Canada. Is this a good idea?? Has anyone else had any luck insuring old bikes??

Most states in the US require liability insurance and when I go to Canada I have to get a "Canada Non-Resident inter-provence motor vehicle liability insurance card"
I know a few people who have BMW's from the 1970's and they all have liability insurance.
Are you trying to get collision, fire, theft ?

The only problem I can think of is trying to insure an "old bike" for damage to the bike.

Thanks John,I just want to be legal. We don't want to insure our bikes so we just need liability insurance. Does the 'Canada Non-Resident inter-provence motor vehicle liability insurance card' have an equivalent in the US and how do you go about getting one?

Each State has it's own requirements for bikes registered in their State.
If stopped by police they like to see some kind of insurance card as long as they see a current card from somewhere they are happy.
I did a search online and found this-

I hope that helps.

Hi Carla,
we are two germans travelling to canada and have in germany an insurence called nowag, we think their have the headquarter in US, so you can write an email in english to:
nowag@t-online.de
I dont think that they have limitations to old bikes. Just try iy, we have our bikes insured there for US and Canada.
btw. we are in Canada right now (Thunder Bay, Ontario,) heading northwest. When will u be around? We are going to spend the summer in Yukon and then in fall going south again?
