Medical cover: US for UK riders
Any UK riders have any recommends here – ?
Which company have you gone through, and what has it cost? I'm only over in the US for 30 days but feel I need to take out some cover... anyone know what's on offer? Greatly appreciated, thanks, ten |

Medical cover USA
Hi
I rode 8,000+ miles alone around the USA in 2001 and 4,000 in 2002 with friends. Try Columbus travel Insurance, you'll have to call as the webpage can't do the additional premium. It depends on time factors but I paid about 50GBP for the last trip (allow for date) for 5million US cover. Basically they will cover a patch up and then fly you home back to a country that doesn’t make profit out of other peoples misfortune, but enough politics. I assume you'll be renting, AVOID Cruise America, in 2002 they totally shafted me and my friends with a bike that had a dead battery and bald tyres in Chicago which we'd booked six months in advance. The manager was no where to be seen and some spotty kid tried to palm us off with a couple of ropey Harleys instead. Basically they were useless and cost us an extra 500GBP between us. Sorry for rant, you'll need to know bike size etc for medical cover. Good luck it’s a great place to ride, watch the roads in Michigan! |

As to the bit about skipping on the bill, the UK has an open door policy to US debts, which means they can sell the debt to a UK company for medical treatment costs adding any extra 'admin' charge then chase your bottom here for the money. (Strangely Congress refused to allow it to happen in reverse after the British Parliament had passed it in to UK law so US citizens can screw UK tax payers for medical treatment and we can't chase them over there).
Unless you have no fixed abode and a dodgy passport don't even think about going to the US with out medical cover. |
