Necessary to purchase insurance?
Hi, just catching up on a few things before flying out tomorrow morning.
I am wondering if it is necessary to purchase insurance when crossing borders as I have my own travel insurance from Australia which is covering my whole trip? They have given me a certificate and a small card with information on it, could I simply display this at borders? |
What does your travel insurance cover? Loss of baggage, delayed flights, health/medical, repatriation? It wont cover a vehicle.

Nobody at a border cares about your personal insurance - at most they may want yellow fever vaccination card at appropriate borders, but that's it.
What they MAY well care about is third party vehicle insurance. And that won't be from your Aussie vehicle insurance - that's invalid as soon as you leave the country. Depending on the country, you may need to get it: 1. in advance - USA / Canada / Europe - or 2. on arrival at the border - NZ and many other countries - or 3. they don't care at all. 4. Or they don't ask at the border - but you have to have it! Again - Canada / USA / Europe. |
