Paper work South Africa to South America
 

I am and American touring in South Africa on an African Twin that I bought in Cape Town. I love the bike and want to ship it from Cape Town to South American and then ride it back to the US. I was wondering if anyone would now what kind of paper work I need for the South African bike. Also I am planning on being in Cape Town in late November so if anyone is shipping a bike in the similar direction maybe we could share a crate to reduce costs.

I am fairly sure that you won't need a carnet for any South or Central America countries, this was the case a few years ago, as long as the bike is registered in your name I do not see a problem.
Also if you are having a problem finding shipping I know people who took a cruise from CT to BA and the bikes went as hand luggage for free, this also smoothed their passage in Argentina where customs can sometimes make things difficult and expensive.
Beware of shipping two bikes together, I did this with a friend to save money on paperwork when going to Chile, although customs did not make an issue of it they told me that they could of done as technically I was shipping two bikes in my name and was only allowed to temporarily import one at a time.

Just wanted to say thanks for the advise. I ended up flying my bike from Cape Town To Sao Paulo on South African Air lines.
