Permit needed for North East India?

Hi,

Does anyone know for sure if PAPs (Protected Area Permits) are needed to travel through Manipur, Assam, and the Darjeeling area of the West Bengal Region on North East India?

I know the requirement was suspended for 2012 as a trial, but I am not sure if they were reinstated or not.

Thanks in advance,

Vaughan.

Hi Vaughan,
This is my old info. May not be usefull. anyway, In 2009, i travelled to NE states. I had Indian passport at that time. Still, so much paperwork, i had to cut short. But, its an amazing part of india, not many people have explored on bikes. Climbed 16500ft high at Sella pass in AP. It was extreme in my Royal enfield.
any info you need, let me know.
wish you luck if you have not travelled yet

In 2012 we did not need permits for Darjeeling, Assam or Meghalaya. We did for Sikkim but it was easily and quickly procured at the checkpoint.
