Renewing a carnet: before or after entering Australia?

G'day all!

Need help and info on renewing a carnet please.

Me and missus yahoo plan to overland from the UK and enter Oz with a working holiday visa, Duration: 10 months.
This will only leave 2 months on the carnet. So if we enter OZ on that we'll only be able to get a 2 month temporary import visa as it only gets issued for the duration of your carnet.
As we plan to work and travel our way through oz for a year, this is gonna be a slight problem.

So fastest finger on the buzzer please, the question is this:

Do we enter oz on whats left of our carnet and renew that and the temp import visa after we've penetrated down under.

OR

Do we apply for a new carnet before we attempt to enter oz? Say somewhere like thailand.

Thanks guys!

I do not know the Australian rules specifically but it is normally a requirement that you apply from outside the Country for a working holidaymaker (WHM) visa. You often cannot apply for a WHM from within the Country issuing the visa. You probably cannot extend it if you have used it to enter that country.
Most commonwealth countries grant a TWO year long WHM visa as long as you are a British Citizen.
You generally can only work for half the time you are in the country eg 3 months if you are there six months.
You often can only get ONE WHM visa as well but Australia has a provision for second visa if you have done 3 months work in a seasonal harvest work.
PS make sure you do not have any dependant children as that excludes you from the scheme.

Simple.

Just enter the country on the carnet then have your isuing dept DHL the follow on carnet to where ever you are when it runs out they can do it 1 month before expiry. Then ring up the local customes office the day before to give them your details then you will be asked to come in the next day. 15 mins later old carnet stamped new one stamped photocopy the closing page and page 26 send old and photocopys off Job done for another year. its all on the Darwin NT page of our website.

Andy you beauty!

Is it really that easy?
One less thing to worry about, you've made my day!

Will 2 months be enough time to get all this sorted?

We will already have our WHV before we set off from UK.

Mate it is that easy,

Read the NT blog on the website. I emailed a month before but they just said ring up the day before then come in the next day. Email customs to forward it to your isuing company as proof that they are happy with the renual. but dont worry about it just enjoy the trip and dont rush.
