Syrian Visa to enter from Jordan-UK National

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get a visa to enter Syria from Jordan?I am a UK citizen with my Dubai registered bike here in Jordan and I want to transit Syria for an onward trip back to UK. The Syrian Embassy in Amman will not issue a Visa . Is it possible to get a Visa at the border ?
This is very urgent .Please provide your opinions / experiences as soon as possible !

I'm just wondering how you got to Jordan with a Dubai bike. Did you plan to go through Syria from the outset? It's not much help or comfort but from my experience if you had intended to go through Syria you ought to have applied for your Syrian visa in your country of residence (Dubai?).

If the Syrian Embassy don't want to give you a visa I wouldn't fancy your chances at the border. They might not have the authority to make such a decision.

My advice from having a similarly difficult situation in Jordan, (the authorities did not want to release 2 bikes from Amman customs that were owned by one person) is to remain friendly but keep trying to see the next person in the chain at the Syrian Embassy. Explain that you cannot go back to the UAE for whatever reason but would like to visit Syria to see the beautiful country as a tourist. It sounds cheesy but it might work.

Good luck. Stephan

If worse comes to worse find a trucking company in Amman that will take the bike to Turkey for you. You could follow in a bus or fly. There are HEAPS of trucks transitting Amman on the way to and from Europe. You should get a cheap price. Go to the area near the huge customs container clearance complex in east Amman - it is surrounded by dozens of transport companies. (you might have to wait a few days before it leaves)

good luck

It is potentially possible to get the visa at the Syrian border. The official rule is that you have to apply in the country where you are resident if that country has a Syrian representative (which I assume Dubai has?), otherwise you can get it at the border.

In Dec 05, I was refused a Syrian visa in both Egypt and Jordan, on the basis that I wasn't a permanent resident there and hadn't applied for the visa in my home country (Australia, where I hadn't lived for several years).

I contacted the Syrian embassy in Australia who in turn apparently contacted the border crossing with Jordan and requested that they grant me a visa on the border. I'm not actually sure if this made the slightest bit of difference, but when I turned up at the border they gave me a visa on the spot without any hassles. I also met an American who turned up without a visa and after camping at the crossing for 24 hours they gave him a visa. Therefore it is possible.........

Good luck

Syrian Visas at the Border

We have just crossed the Syrian Border from Jordan at the Ramtha crossing with no problems ! We were given 15 day Visas. We were asked why we didnt have visas before and said we went to the Syrian Embassy in Amman and they said they would not issue one and we would get it at the border ( actually they said you may get one at the border). We are both riding bikes registered in Dubai and are UK nationals .
The Border guys were in fact more than normally pleasant ( and it was a very quiet day ) and charged us $50 . Insurance for each bike was $33. The only problem ,sorted by the officer in charge was due to my not have a residence visa for Dubai and riding a Dubai reg. bike ( this problem pursues me but is overcomeable so far !)

Great news, Pete.
Now you're there, here are a couple of waypoints: :thumbup1:

Palmyra: N34 32.974 E38 16.286

Don't miss the the best-preserved Roman theater in the world at Bosra either. I think you must be fairly close to it now. Don't ride straight past on your way up to Damascus if you have time to go there.

I'm envious, Stephan.
