Taking a trailer into West Africa from Europe, possible??
What are the regulations for trailers in West Africa? I'm needing a trailer when I get to Sierra Leone and I'd like to get one while I am in Europe. There will be two of us traveling so if necessary we can put the vehicle on one passport and the trailer on the other. We're driving a 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser diesel which is the same vehicle we drove north from Sierra Leone in the spring.
We'll be traveling down from Germany with a Sierra Leone registered vehicle. The countries to be crossed are as a minimum: Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. It is possible we could also enter Mali but I'm not yet sure on that one. I know The Gambia can be bypassed but we MUST go there. Questions: 1. are there import/export restrictions in any of these countries as far as trailers are concerned? 2. how do I handle licensing? Can I get a number plate from Germany for the trailer? Do I need a number plate that matches my vehicle? 3. do any of these countries have any restrictions on trailers for vehicles? Any other words of advice? ?c?:helpsmilie: |
In all honesty, I don't know.
But I have seen some guys on Dutch plates with a trailer in Senegal before. I also remember a BBC programme here in UK about a celebrity who took a trailer with his vehicle all the way to Freetown with equipment on it. So I guess the answer is yes, you can take one, but in terms of paperwork, I have no idea. Sorry not much help! doh |
