Temporary Bike Registration
Please excuse my total ignorance but can anyone tell what the deal is as far as temporary bike registration in the US when shipping a bike to the US to travel around for a few months?
I will be coming from Australia. Thanks |
I may misunderstand your question, but when you ship a bike to the US you use your existing Australia registration. You do not need any sort of temporary registration. It works the same way in almost every country in the world--in fact, the only place I've ever been where I needed a local registration was Cuba.
Hope that's helpful. Mark |
No temporary registration needed just US/Canada bike insurance which you can get from these people https://www.motorcycleexpress.com/
I am not sure of any other proceedure for shipping to the US as I took mine into Canada which is totally hassle free but make sure it is clean and legal in your home country. Markharf this confusion has probably arisen as temporarily imported vehicles into Australia have to go to their equivalent of the DMV and pay registration like a local although they retain their foreign plate. |
Thanks, Mark. I wasn't aware of that, having visited Australia a couple of times long before I started riding.

Roger, your shipping agent should be able to advise (or not!!) but depending where it is going in the USA you might need to submit EPA certification. May not apply to bikes though

does anybody know for how long the bike is allowed to stay within the USA - is there a bike permit issued on entry to there
i will be coming from Mexico to the USA in 2019 |
