third party liability insurance
 

Hello very soon I am leaving from Belgium for a one year trip on a XT 600 E :thumbup1: overland to Russia, Mongolia, China, Nepal, India...SE Asia and back...:cool4:

I am confused about the insurance I am supposed to have,only the obligatory ones I mean (third party liability insurance)
Regular insurances in Belgium are covering only European countries
Can I get one that covers the whole trip ?
Do I have to subscribe an insurance in every country I travel?
Can anybody help me out?

I doubt there are companies who offer third laibility insurance worldwide. I traveled around the world and this are my experiences.
- Turkey: your European green card is valid
- Syria: green card invalid, you have to buy insurance at the border
- Egypt, Jordan: at the border
- Israel: green card is valid
- Iran: green card invalid, you CAN buy insurance at the border (nobody has asked me about insurance)
- Turkmenistan: insurance at the border
- Uzbekistan, Kazachstan, Kyrgyzstan: no insurance, nobody askes for it
- Russia: you have to buy insurance at the border
- Mongolia: no insurance, nobody askes
- Japan: insurance compulsory, you can buy insurance at any motorbikeshop
- South America: no insurance, tried to get one in Chili, impossible, I made a fake insuranceform.
- USA: insurance compulsory; I got insurance through Motorcycle Express (by email/fax).

Most insurance companies cross these countries off, so check with your co. You may be able to get a GC for some of these, but I have just read elsewhere that Israel, Iran, Morocco and Tunisia are no longer members of the GC scheme.

Don't ride in TR without insurance.

You mention China: organise your trip 3 months in advance with an agency or you likely won't get in.

I would actually like to buy some for Colombia. I know you can, but I know not where.

Check out the relevant China topics. Insurance is the least of your worries. Guide, minder, accompanying vehicle, 150$/day. The agency will take care of all the paperwork for you.

Insurance cover Syd-Eu overland
 

We're driving from Sydney to Europe, currently in Pak, in an Australian registered car so Im not sure if the same applies to bikes. However, for what its worth, so far we've bought at the border in Thailand and Laos, (v cheap), it comes with the paperwork in China and needs to be arranged for Sing/Malaysia at the Singapore AA in person as a pre-requisite of collecting the car from the port. (if coming the other way contact the Sing AA prior to crossing - theyre v helpful - as you may need to leave the bike/car in JB, travel into Sing, get the paperwork and go back to retrieve the vehicle - shouldnt take more than a morning) In Nepal, India and Pak we took the view it wouldn't be worth the paper it was written on and anyway any rickshaw wallah we hit or the owner of any goat we flattened wouldn't be interested in dealing with an insurance co and would be unlikely to let us move on until a bundle of rupes had changed hands.

Now our Q. We're certain things dont work quite the same in Eu, so where can we get 3rd party cover? The Aus insurers arent interested and those in the UK dont seem to understand the question. Does the Turkish auto club's cover cover the whole of Eu? Suggestions welcome
