No a title is not necessary for central and south america. I've just ridden through 9 countries and at every border and to every cop I've simply shown them my registration, and told them it is my title. They have never known the difference, and they have no way to verify it. Not sure exactly what Mr. Greg Frassier is referring to.

Before leaving I also went to Kinkos and made numerous color copies of my title and registration, etc. These copies are so good there is no way a border official could tell the difference. A title could be faked in a matter of hours on a computer in Mexico.
