Traveling From California to The Darien Gap
 

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I need a Carnet to travel through Mexico and Central America to the Darien gap? Also, do I need to carry insurance while traveling in these countries? Are there any other hidden hurdles which I need to jump like aquiring a visa for each country, getting innoculations, etc.? This is my first time planning a trip like this so I would really appreciate any imput you guys could give me.

Hi,

I've recently travelled from Panama to the USA. A carnet is not required as all the countries concerned have their own systems for keeping track of foreign bikes. If you were to show them a carnet they wouldn't know what it was but they'd probably stamp it for you just to be polite after they'd made you go through their system.
