Two vehicles at once?
My vehicle is in storage in Uruguay. My idea is to take a second vehicle, a camper, also in my name, into Uruguay. Then I will take the first one out of the country and return without it. Then continue to travel in South America with that second vehicle.
When I go in with the camper, I wonder if my name/passport number will be linked in the computer system with my vehicle that's there now (probably yes) and if so, whether I might be not allowed to take in the camper (because I already have a vehicle there). Please, any ideas on this? |
Phone the embassy and ask? If you get a good reply, write and ask .. this way you get a written response that you can use at the border.
If you get a bad response then you will have to fly in, drive out and then drive back in. Same number of trips. Unless your taking parts in for the vehicle that is already, there it should not be a problem. |
Sounds good about flying in/driving out/driving back in. However, I would be arriving in Montevideo by sea from Europe with the second vehicle (first one at this moment in Uruguay).
Thinking about this again, I suspect that a passport (passport alone) might well not be linked to a vehicle paper issued by aduana. In December 2016 I flew to Uruguay (vehicle already there) and flew out again (vehicle still there). As I went through immigration, did it flag up that "this guy has a vehicle here"? Perhaps. Perhaps not. That's why I asked the original question. If it didn't/doesn't flag up, then a second vehicle can be taken in. But yes, nothing is lost by phoning the UG embassy and asking, even if they don't know the answer. Thanks. |
