URGENT: LEAVE COSTA RICA W/O BIKE?
I need to leave Costa Rica for an emergency and can find no information of what I would need to do to leave the bike and fly out. It is Saturday so there is no way to speak to anyone in the government. As far as I understand they will not let you leave without the vehicle. thank you ------------------ Steven 2001 KLR650 Cozumel, Mexico |
Officially, you are not meant to leave without your bike. Having just crossed through there, I remember that Costa Rica are the only country in Central America which do not stamp the bike into your passport. This may mean that you can get away with leaving the coutnry and leaving the bike there. Why not just try? Provided you get back to CR to exit again with the bike and do not overstay the bike vehicle time, it could work.

y_kiwi who used to post here got stuck at the panama border because he left the country without the bike, returned and tried to leave overland with expired papers.
The aduana in San Jose will store the bike for about a dollar a day, but if you have to leave in a hurry that won't be much help. Given your situation, you should just deal with it when you get back. (you've probably left already, anyway) |
thanks for the advice... I did find out that CR is the only central american country to not stamp the bike into the passport... very lucky in my case. |
