V5 registration document for imported bike
 

I am going overland to Oz and I am looking to buy a R1150GS. The two I have enquired about were imported by SPC in Kent. Having done a vehicle check on the bikes it has shown that the chassis numbers are recored but not the engine numbers. The owners have looked on the V5 and it says "NK".
Does anyone know if this would cause problems in dealing with the paperwork for the trip e.g. obtaining a carnet or at borders if the documents are checked?

Before you leave/after you buy it , write in to the DVLA with the correct engine number . They correct the paperwork to show the real number and off you go . This normally takes 6 weeks but they did it for me in 1 week in 2001 ( with grovelling cover letter and registered mail ) .
