is the vehicle TITLE needed to enter Europe?????
I am trying to get my 2001 BMW f650GS Dakar over to eastern europe (Albania) where i work. my fathers' work is using hooking me up with their frieght company and i will have them ship my bike to holland where then i will have a truck-driving friend truck the bike down to me in ALBANIA.
here's the catch...the frieght company (on the USA side) says i dont need the TITLE. The bike is financed through my credit union, so they are the lien holders. DO I NEED THE ORIGINAL TITLE IN ORDER TO GET INTO EUROPE? OR IS REGISTRATION SUFFICIENT? THANKS!!! [This message has been edited by smason (edited 12 June 2004).] |
As far as the UK goes, we don't have Titles AND Registrations.
We have a Registration document that records the Vehicle Kepers name (not necesarily the Legal owner though), the registered address & vehicle details i.e. frame & engine numbers, date of first registration, number of previous owners & last owners address. You need some form of documentation, preferably one that records your name & address & that matches the details on the Insurance paperwork. If you any sort of certificate of roadworthiness, take it with you. May also bbe worth sorting out photocopies in advance as well & storing them separately. I believe that the rest of the EU has similar paperwork although I have no experience of Albania - do they even have insurance & is it worth anything? Steve |
Steve is right on.
The concept of a separate Title and Registration seems to be unique to the USA. One document normally says you are the owner/keeper whatever of the vehicle. The rest of the world goes on what the registration document says - that is the piece of paper with your name on it, the licence number of the bike, and done by the "Motor Vehicle authority" in your area. enjoy Albania - and Europe! ------------------ Grant Johnson Seek, and ye shall find. ------------------------ One world, Two wheels. www.HorizonsUnlimited.com |
