visa photo size question
hi there, went to get a few sets of passport sized photos done today ready for mass visa etc application ahead of my upcoming trip through Africa (London to Capetown) when I was told that some countries in Africa require a "visa" sized photos which is not the same as a passport sized photo. does anyone know from their recent travels if this is true for any African country? Haven't organised my exact route yet but am likely to roughly head south along the west coast and then back north again along the east coast, which covers a lot of countries. Any guidance would be great.
Thanks! |
Passport sized photos have worked for me in the last two years in Algeria, Mauri, Niger and four years ago in Chad.

I think they will be the same thing - usually 35mm x 45mm. You are very unlikely to get a problem if you have standard passport photos.

ok cool I suspected as much, first I'd heard of non-standard passport photos being required - thanks!

I've got a vague memory of a consular official somewhere in West Africa cutting down my passport photos with scissors to fit whatever visa application it was. Don't worry: everything works out.
FWIW, I'm still using 20 year old photos on visa applications--I came across a whole trove of leftovers, and as long as the pairs match no one seems to mind. Mark |
