Visa requirements
Is there a list here by country as to visa requirements. I plan on traveling through Southern African countries, then up the east coast. Can I get all paperwork at the border crossing or must I find an embassy and make application. USA citizen
Thanks for the help :scooter: |
Google US State Department. They maintain an on-line list of visa requirements. For the most part it's accurate (or at least, for the most part it's as accurate as any other list). Specific details are best gathered by scanning or searching the forums, but any master list would quickly be rendered defunct, therefore highly misleading. In fact, even if you find one, you'll still want to confirm each and every listing elsewhere. Things change quickly.
For example, when Ethiopia abruptly started requiring visas to be secured in your home country, a lot of people were caught out. The State Department updated its web listing, but it didn't make note of the fact that for a while you could still get your visa in Harrare. And the State Department isn't any good at suggesting specific embassies where people have historically had an easier time of it. Their personnel often seem to spend their time hiding from the locals, and don't really know much; besides, they don't go around applying for visas the way a traveler does. The way you ask your question about applying in advance or purchasing at borders suggests you haven't started researching. If that's true, you'll find it works better to do your own research before asking on this forum or others. Then you're in a position to ask specific questions about specific countries or crossings. Hope that's helpful. Mark |
You will pick up some useful information from other travellers while on the road, for instance I had ruled out Mozambique as I thought the visa at $100 in CapeTown was too much, I met some other travellers in Swaziland who pointed out the same visa was $15 there.
