What to do with my bike?
 

We are ending our 4 year RTW in North America in a few months. Our bike is finished and i don't want to send it back home. What is a good country, if there are any, where I can legally leave my bike? I could give it to a wrecker or something...I don't know.
Does anyone know about this? It should be Mexico, US or Canada.
I still have a Carnet on my bike so in theory, I have to bring my bike to a police station in Belgium to get my deposit back. That's why I want to know the "legal" way.

Read this all the way through to the end before you actually do anything binding. My understanding is..
What was the last use of your carnet? Was this to enter or to exit?
If you have an exit as your last use then the carnet is clear and you should be able to close it. It will help if you can prove disposal of the bike in a non carnet country (a witnessed certificate of sale?).
If the last use is an entry then you have to contact that contries customs people and get the carnet cleared .. disposal has to meet their requirements.

Once you have this figured out locally (sale documentation/carnet clearance) then contact your carnet issuer and check that it is ok with them.
If and only if all that is ok .. then do it. If not then do what you have to do to meet the extra requirements.
