When do I apply for my carnet
Rough outline of the trip:
Leave UK May 2007 EU - Moldova - Ukraine - Russia Enter Kazakhstan late June Uzbekistan - Kyrgyzstan - Tajikistan Enter Afghanistan October 2007 Pakistan October 2007 Stay in India until July 2008 Leave Caucasus (Armenia / Azerbaijan / Georgia) October 2008. As far as I'm aware, I cannot get a post-dated Carnet, so I have two options: Get someone back home to do my Carnet (can a third-party do this?) in, say June and get them to send it out to me (e.g. to Dushanbe). As far as I'm aware, the first country that would require a Carnet would be Pakistan, though this information is sketchy. Are there any relieable shipping agents to Kyrgyzstan / Tajikistan? Do the Carnet before I leave (April) - but this will run out when I'm still in India - which requires a Carnet. Can the Carnet be extended beyond 12 months? If anyone could help with some relevant information on either option, I'd be most grateful. Many thanks, Dan |
I did a similar trip, Europe through Asia, and I applied for everything on the carnet and left the deposit before I left and then had the carnet issued several months after I left. The carnet was sent to me in Central Asia. I was on the road for a while and didn't want it to expire before the end of the trip so I wanted to maximize my time.
If you have it issued several months prior to actually needing the carnet, you will be wasting the time on the carnet through countries that don't require it. You will not need the carnet until Pakistan, so I would have it have it issued as late as possible and have it sent via DHL or FedEx to someplace close to Pakistan. |
